Cycling is an exceptionally popular sport in the entire world and in the recent years it is exhibiting an unprecedented bloom in Greece as well, with the number of bikes (amateur or professional) skyrocketing. The SEG Racing Academy is a professional cycling team from Holland and member of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale).
We have known SEG Racing from the beginning of its formation and we came to love it through its coach, Vasili Anastopoulos, who was responsible for its athletes’ visit to Loutraki at the beginning of 2015 for their first training camp and at the same time it was the first professional team that chose Greece as a training destination.
Following participations in tens of competitions in all of Europe and a series of impressive successes, the venture by SEG Racing was absolutely successful. Its athletes, even from the first year as PRO, continued on their way to teams such as TEAM SKY and Lotto Jumbo and, so much the owners of the team as its coach, have every reason to be satisfied.
By focusing on instructions and training, the main aim of the Academy is to provide new talents who will take professional cycling tο the highest level and to ‘create’ athletes who they will later channel to professional teams in Europe and America. Club Hotel Casino Loutraki is honored to undertake again this year the hospitality of the team.
The training day begins in the morning at Club Hotel Casino Loutraki with the preparation of the team before it starts its 5-hour training session, the instructions by the technicians and the inspection of the bikes. Following this, the training starts at the superb and enjoyable routes around Loutraki. Captivating landscape, excellent asphalt condition, quietness, complete absence of cars, correct road inclinations and professional environment characterize the cycling experience of the team. At the end of the training session, the athletes head towards Club Hotel Casino Loutraki in order to discuss the results of the day and for the announcement of the program for the next day.
Sports Director:
Neil Martin
Former pro rider Neil Martin will join the SEG Racing performance team as sports director. The in Girona based cycling coach will partner up with performance director Michiel Elijzen to coach the team during races. Neil will combine this role with his job as National Coach at the Irish Cycling Federation. Neil brings a lot of experience and coaching background with him, which is really welcomed by the entire staff.
Performance Coach:
Peter Schep
Former track world champion Peter Schep is one of the two performance coaches at SEG Racing. Peter combines his work for SEG Racing with his job at the Dutch national cycling federation as track coach. Beside that Peter works already for some years with some SEG Cycling pro riders. Peter will be responsible for the daily training of the SEG Racing riders together with Vasilis Anastopoulos
Performance Coach:
Vasilis Anastopoulos
Certificated UCI trainer Vasilis Anastopoulos is scientist and a former pro rider on the road and track. He’s current coach of some individual SEG Cycling pro riders. Vasilis will be as performance coach responsible for the daily training and training progress at SEG Racing together with Peter Schep. He will be also responsible as data analyst and from that position monitor the entire team progress.
